YMCA's Parent/child Program Purpose
The Orange County YMCA conducts the largest Parent/Child Program in Orange County. Each year, nearly 5,000 families participate in these programs that build lifelong values and strengthen the bond between parent and child. These Parent-Child Programs have been offered in Orange County since the late 1930s.
Programs and Ages
- Y-Papooses for Parents and Preschoolers 4-5 years old
- Y-Braves for Mothers and Sons K-3rd grade
- Y-Guides for Fathers and Sons K-3rd grade
- Y-Princesses for Fathers and Daughters K-3rd grade
- Y-Maidens for Mothers and Daughters K-3rd grade
- Y-Trail Blazers, Trail Mates, and Trail Mix for Parents and Older Children grades 4 and up
- Y-Dream Catchers for Parents and Older Children grades 4 and up
Objectives
Foster companionship and understanding and set a foundation for positive, lifelong relationships between parent and child. Build a sense of self-esteem and personal worth. Expand awareness of spirit, mind, and body. Provide the framework to meet a mutual need of spending enjoyable, constructive, and quality time together. Enhance the quality of family time. Emphasize the vital role that parents play in the growth and development of their children. Offer an important and unique opportunity to develop and enjoy volunteer leadership skills
